The Black Bear March and Festival at Rombaksbotn

Location: Narvik
Category: Family event, Events
Date: Saturday 29 jun 2019

The Black Bear (Svarta Bjørn) march is a tribute to a young woman who worked as a cook for the navvies during the construction of the Ofoten Railway, the world's first arctic railroad.

The Black Bear March follows the Ofoten Railway's old construction roads and it is considered to be one of Norway's most beautiful hikes. The contrasts are great, as the modern train rolls on in the distance you find yourself in spectacular surroundings with historical and cultural sites. The target area is at the beautiful and lush valley of Rombaksbotn. That is where the festival takes place. There will be barbecuing, music, activities for children, world championships in iron ore lump throwing and lot of merry making. From Rombaksbotn you can join a cosy boat trip on the Rombaksfjord to Sildvik and corresponding bus back to Narvik.
